Alternative Medicine

The Academy of Integrative Health & Medicine (AIHM) is an interprofessional membership association of diverse health professions working together to transform health care globally - body, mind, spirit, community and planet. Her practice includes holistic women's health, fertility, pregnancy, labor and childbirth, postpartum care and pediatrics She brings years of clinical experience to her practice and believes in the integration of Eastern and Western medicine in order to treat disease and maintain well-being.
Furthermore, the chosen definition recognizes that the definition of conventional” medicine will vary from time to time and from country to country, it does not presume that proven practices will be adopted, and it allows CAM to be evaluated over time.



It's quite revolutionary compared to the mainstream medicine practiced by most physicians-the one we're most familiar with that's more oriented toward acute care, where the doctor usually applies prescribed treatments such as drugs or surgery to treat the immediate problem or symptom.
It is the sum total of the knowledge, skill, and practices based on the theories, beliefs, and experiences indigenous to different cultures, whether explicable or not, used in the maintenance of health as well as in the prevention, diagnosis, improvement or treatment of physical and mental illness.

He served as a consultant to the Institute of Medicine Committee on Complementary and Alternative Medicine Use in the United States and has authored several books, including Complementary and Alternative Medicine: Legal Boundaries and Regulatory Perspectives (Johns Hopkins University Press, 1998).
CAM providers sought to align their work with biomedicine (e.g., psychotherapy or physical therapy), or contest differences by reconciling different cultural assumptions in learning (e.g., memorizing versus discussing) or by aligning their practice in a way that affirmed their clients' biological-sociocultural-epigenetic environment to achieve health.
CAM practitioners assert control by performing their own patterns of exclusionary closure (e.g., appropriating biomedical language), increasing their professional status by working with biomedicine, and by breaking boundaries” ( Almeida, 2016 ; Agarwal, 2018 ). Aligning diverse knowledge bases in the practice of medicine is important because providers shape patient beliefs and decision-making based on their training ( Yang et al., 2017 ). Thus, a lack of clarity in ontological frameworks negatively impacts inter-professional collaboration and the patient relationship.

Traditional medicine is considered alternative when it is used outside its home region; or when it is used together with or instead of known functional treatment; or when Shamanism it can be reasonably expected that the patient or practitioner knows or should know that it will not work - such as knowing that the practice is based on superstition.
There are many courses for energy healers, Dr Judith Orloff's, intuitive healing is one of the forerunners in this field as are Barbara Brennan's and Carolyn Myss's classes, Donna Eden's Energy Medicine courses, or Soul Mind Body Medicine with Dr Sha's Power Healing.

The purpose of the commission was to study and report on public policy issues in the rapidly expanding field of complementary and alternative medicine.” Furthermore, the commission was asked to report on legislative and administrative recommendations to assure that public policy maximizes the benefits to Americans of appropriate use of complementary and alternative medicine” (Executive Order 13147, 2000).
